Arcanum joviale
Arcanum joviale is an old medical preparation made from mercury and tin. The alloy was treated with nitre (saltpeter) and then washed with alcohol, which was burned away. This process was repeated several times until the mixture no longer had a strong taste. The final product was used much like antihecticum poterii and was sometimes recommended as a sudorific (to induce sweating).
