Flanimals
Flanimals is a funny book series created by comedian Ricky Gervais with drawings by Rob Steen. It features odd, silly creatures and the strange things they do.
The first book was published in England in 2004 by Faber and Faber. It has several follow-ups: More Flanimals, Flanimals of the Deep, and Flanimals: The Day of the Bletchling. A pop-up edition called Flanimals: Pop Up came out in 2009 in the UK and in 2010 in the US.
In 2010, Norwich writer John Savage claimed the original book copied his Captain Pottie’s Wildlife Encyclopedia, but a Gervais spokesperson said the ideas existed before his work.
ITV planned a TV series based on the books, but it was canceled. A Flanimals animated movie was also discussed, with Illumination Entertainment (the studio behind Despicable Me) involved. Gervais would be the executive producer and voice the lead character, and Matt Selman was set to write. The project was later removed from development, and there have been no new updates since 2009.
