Bill Owen (rugby league)
William “Bill” Owen (11 February 1936 – 13 August 1996), nicknamed "Bags," was an Australian rugby league player who played as a forward (prop and second-row). He began his career with North Newcastle. He was part of the 1961 Kangaroos touring squad to New Zealand but did not play in any tests. Owen made his Test debut in 1962 against Great Britain at Lang Park, partnering Mick Veivers in the second row. He later played first-grade rugby league for South Sydney in 1963 and 1964, making 31 appearances and scoring 3 tries (9 points).
At the representative level, Owen played for New South Wales from 1959 to 1962 (5 appearances) and earned one cap for Australia in 1962. He passed away in 1996 at age 60.
