First Nedunchezhiyan ministry was an interim Tamil Nadu government. After Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai died in 1969, the Governor appointed V. R. Nedunchezhiyan, the senior‑most minister, to act as Chief Minister until a new party leader was chosen. He resigned when M. Karunanidhi became party leader, ending the interim ministry. The 1967 election set a five‑year term; the ministry followed the Annadurai ministry and was succeeded by the First Karunanidhi ministry. The main opposition was the Indian National Congress, led in the assembly by P. G. Karuthiruman.
