Echo, Inyo County, California

Echo was a former settlement in Inyo County, California. It sat on the crest of the Funeral Mountains above Death Valley, between Lee and Schwaub. The place never had buildings, only tents used by workers of the Inyo Gold Mining Company, set up and taken down as needed. A telephone line between Lee and Schwaub passed through Echo. The settlement did not last, because there were no more profitable prospects nearby. Today, a few remnants remain: two former tent sites, some dumps, and fragments of glass. The Echo site is within Death Valley National Park.
