Firebase Shepherd
Firebase Shepherd, also known as Hill 248, was a U.S. Marine Corps and ARVN firebase in Quảng Trị Province, Vietnam. Built in 1968 by the 3rd Marine Division during Operation Scotland II, it sat south of Route 9 about 18 km southwest of Mai Loc Camp. The base housed forces from the 3rd Marine Division and ARVN's 1st Division. The 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines closed Shepherd on November 11, 1968, but it was reopened in July 1970 to support Operation Clinch Valley and remained in use through 1970.
