Ferry Cliff, Sutton
Ferry Cliff, Sutton is a 2.8-hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Suffolk, designated in 1987. It is also a Geological Conservation Review site and lies within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The rocks here date back to the Paleocene, about 60 million years ago. The site contains Britain’s oldest fossils of rodents and hoofed mammals, including early horse ancestors. A public footpath runs along the very steep cliff.
