Callochiton
Callochiton is a genus of chitons, mollusks with eight plated shells. It belongs to the family Callochitonidae, subfamily Callochitoninae. The genus has existed from the Oligocene to today. The type species is Chiton laevis. There are multiple species within the genus. Over time, Callochiton has been described under several different names, now treated as synonyms or alternate forms, including Acutoplax; Callochiton (Callochiton); Callochiton (Icoplax); Callochiton (Ocellochiton); Callochiton (Stereochiton); Callochiton (Trachyradsia); Paricoplax; and Stereochiton.
