Fellsman
The Fellsman is an annual 60‑mile event in the Yorkshire Dales that combines walking, trail running, and hiking. It runs from Ingleton to Threshfield and includes about 11,000 feet (3,400 meters) of ascent. The route passes over peaks such as Ingleborough, Whernside, Gragareth, Great Coum, Dent, Blea Moor, and Buckden Pike before finishing in Threshfield. Because much of the course is on private land and some paths aren’t clearly marked, good navigation with a map and compass is essential.
The event was created in 1962 by Don Thompson and the Brighouse District Rover Crew. It was first walked along the opposite route from today’s course, and organization later transferred to the Keighley Scout Service Team (now Keighley Scout Service Network). The distance is about 60 miles (97 km), and the course record is 10 hours 6 minutes. Official site: fellsman.org.uk
