Fair Oaks–Fairfax Boulevard Line
The Fair Oaks–Fairfax Boulevard Line, known as Route 1C, was a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority bus line that served Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. On weekdays it ran from the Dunn Loring Metro station to the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center, and on weekends it continued to Fair Oaks Mall. The route passed through Merrifield, Woodburn, City of Fairfax, and the Fair Oaks area, stopping at landmarks like Dunn Loring station, Inova Fairfax Hospital, and Fair Oaks Mall. Typical trips were about 30 minutes on weekdays and about 60 minutes on weekends.
The 1C followed Arlington Boulevard and Fairfax Boulevard, starting from the Four Mile Run division. It connected Dunn Loring station to the McConnell Center on weekdays, and on weekends it ended at Fair Oaks Mall. The line also served parts of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax, including local markets and businesses.
History and changes: The line began in 1983 as part of the Wilson Boulevard–Fairfax Line and was originally called the Fair Oaks–Dunn Loring Line. It became its own 1C route on June 24, 2007, when it split from the Wilson line. In 2013 the line was renamed the Fair Oaks–Fairfax Boulevard Line and extended to the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center on weekdays. Weekend service remained to Fair Oaks Mall. Over the years WMATA made various adjustments, including reductions during the COVID-19 pandemic and budget-driven changes.
In June 2025, WMATA redesigned several routes. Route 1C was merged with Route 1A and renamed the F60, F61, and F62. The F60 combines the paths of 1A and 1C but skips Dunn Loring and Vienna stations; those stations are now served by the F62 (Dunn Loring) and F61 (Vienna).
