Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is a public state park in Bandon, Oregon. It covers about 15 acres along the coast and is run by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The nearby rocks and tidal flats are part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, home to more than 300 bird species. The park’s name comes from an offshore rock that looks like a human face and is tied to a Native American legend. Land for the park began to be donated in 1934, with more land bought in 1961; it was originally called Bandon Ocean Wayside. The park offers picnic tables, restrooms, a viewing scope, and a stairway and trail down to the beach. Just north of Face Rock is Coquille Point, which has its own parking area, benches, and a hiking trail on the mainland portion of the wildlife refuge. Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is open year-round and welcomes about 250,000 visitors each year.
