Aleksei Korotnev
Aleksei Alekseevich Korotnev (February 15, 1854, Moscow – June 14, 1915, Odessa) was a Russian zoologist. He studied at Moscow University, earning his doctorate in 1881, and in 1887 he became a professor at the St. Vladimir Imperial University of Kiev.
Korotnev collected animals in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean in 1885 and again in 1890–91. In 1886 he began studying at the Villefranche Oceanological Observatory in France. He also studied the animals of Lake Baikal between 1900 and 1902.
His main work focused on the embryonic development of several groups, including cnidarians, bryozoans, tunicates, and insects. He was named a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1903.
Several species and groups have been named in his honor, including taxa in the gastropod, bivalve, and crustacean groups.
