FIFA is a long-running football (soccer) video game series created by Electronic Arts. It started in 1993 with FIFA International Soccer and became the official licensed football game, using real leagues, teams, and players. For many years it was developed mainly by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and published by EA Sports.

Over time the series appeared on many platforms and added popular features such as online play, Ultimate Team, career modes, and the story-driven Journey mode. It became one of the best-selling sports game franchises, with more than 325 million copies sold by 2021, and it faced rival games from Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).

Licensing changes changed the series’ name. In 2022 EA and FIFA ended their 30-year partnership, making FIFA 23 the last game under the FIFA name. In 2023 EA Sports released games under the new title EA Sports FC, with EA Sports FC 24 as the first in the new branding. In 2024 FIFA partnered with Konami to host FIFAe World Cup events in Konami’s eFootball.

After a four-year break, FIFA plans to return in 2026 with two new games: FIFA Heroes, developed by ENVER, and an untitled game to be published by Netflix.

There have also been spin-offs and mobile titles like FIFA Street and FIFA Mobile, which include live events and campaigns.
