FC Lokomotyv Kyiv
FC Lokomotiv Kyiv, officially Football Club Lokomotiv Kyiv (Ukrainian: ФК Локомотив Київ), is a Kyiv-based football club owned by the Southwestern Railways. The club participates in Kyiv city football competitions and runs several junior teams that play in the Ukrainian youth league.
Founded in 1919 as ZhelDor (meaning “Railroad”), it joined the Lokomotiv sports society and later changed its name to Lokomotiv in 1936 and to Lokomotiv Yuga in 1940. It played home games at Lokomotyv Stadium in Kyiv, which has a capacity of 1,631.
The team’s best early record was 17th place in the 1938 Soviet Top League, and it won the Kyiv championships several times. In 1947, the club was disbanded and its players moved to Lokomotiv Moscow. Today Lokomotiv Kyiv is known for training young players and selling them to clubs in Ukraine and Europe.
Notable graduates include Andriy Yarmolenko and Oleksandr Yakovenko, who later played for Anderlecht in Belgium. The club has competed in the Ukrainian Second League; in the 2024–25 season it finished 3rd in Group B.
