Ajay Kapoor is a fictional character on the Australian soap Neighbours, played by Sachin Joab. He first appeared on 13 July 2011 and left on 12 July 2013. The Kapoors—Ajay, his wife Priya, and their daughter Rani—were the show’s first Indian and Sri Lankan heritage family since 2010.

Ajay grew up in Erinsborough, became a lawyer, and later joined the local council to help the community. He is portrayed as a positive, family-focused man who does whatever he can for his loved ones. Ajay and Priya married young because Priya was pregnant with Rani, and their careers sometimes pushed ahead of their marriage, creating tensions.

A major story arc saw Paul Robinson clash with Ajay as he tried to undermine him politically. In 2012, Ajay buys 24 Ramsay Street without telling Priya, causing strain. Priya later confides that she is unhappy in their marriage, and the couple attends counseling.

Tragedy struck when Priya dies after a gas explosion caused by faulty stock. Ajay sues the gas supplier and receives a substantial payout, which helps his family. He and Rani consider visiting India, but Ajay learns his grandmother is ill and decides to leave Australia with Rani to be with family. They depart Ramsay Street in July 2013, and Ajay later takes a new job in London.

The Kapoor family’s exit was a cast decision due to budget and story directions. Producers and Joab said they would welcome a return, and the time on Neighbours is remembered for Ajay’s strong commitment to his family, his political work, and the events surrounding Priya’s death.
