Evelyn Dearman
Evelyn Mary Dearman (8 September 1908 – 2 December 1993) was an English tennis player who competed mainly in the late 1920s and 1930s. She played in 13 Wimbledon Championships between 1927 and 1939, with her best singles result being the third round in 1933 and 1937. In doubles, she reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 1937 partnering Joan Ingram, and in mixed doubles the same year she and Daniel Prenn made the semifinals, losing to the second-seeded pair Simonne Mathieu and Yvon Petra.
Her biggest Grand Slam victory came in 1935 when she and Nancy Lyle Glover won the doubles title at the Australian Championships, defeating Louie Bickerton and Nell Hall Hopman in straight sets. In 1937 she won the Canadian Championships singles title after a walkover in the final against Mary Hardwick; she also won the doubles title there with Hardwick.
From 1934 to 1937 Dearman was part of Britain’s Wightman Cup team as a doubles player, with the United States winning all four editions. She played right-handed and died in 1993 at the age of 85.
