William W. Burritt

William W. Burritt (c. 1831–October 18, 1901) was an American Civil War soldier who earned the Medal of Honor for his actions at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on April 27, 1863. Born in Campbell, New York, he joined the 113th Illinois Infantry, Company G, as a private in Chicago. He received the Medal of Honor on July 8, 1896. During the action at Vicksburg, Burritt volunteered as a fireman on a steam tug that ran the blockade and passed the batteries under heavy fire. He died of mitral insufficiency on October 18, 1901, and is buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas.
