Montreal East (Montréal-Est in French) is a suburb located on the Island of Montreal in southern Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Montreal urban area.

History and status
- Montréal-Est began as a separate town on June 4, 1910, founded by businessman Joseph Versailles.
- It separated from Pointe-aux-Trembles and Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rivière-des-Prairies.
- It merged into the City of Montreal in 2002, becoming part of the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles–Montréal-Est.
- After a 2004 referendum, Montréal-Est de-merged and became its own city again on January 1, 2006.

Population and geography
- Area: about 12.15 square kilometers.
- Population: 4,394 people in 2021, with 2,018 of 2,124 private dwellings occupied.
- It is known for its oil refineries, which are a major part of the Montreal Oil Refining Centre.

Government and representation
- Mayor: Anne St-Laurent.
- Federally, Montréal-Est is in the La Pointe-de-l’Île riding.
- Provincially, it is in Pointe-aux-Trembles.

Landmarks and streets
- The Dufresne-Nincheri Museum preserves local history.
- Major east-west routes include Notre-Dame Street and Sherbrooke Street.
- Montréal-Est keeps the name Rue Dorchester on a section of a major street, instead of Boulevard René-Lévesque.
- A section of Rue Montigny remains; Rue Sainte-Catherine and Rue Ontario appear in the city as street names.
- North-south streets include Avenue Georges-V and Avenue Marien.

Education
- Two school boards serve the city: French schools are part of Commission scolaire Pointe-de-l’Ile, and English schools are part of the English Montreal School Board.
