Emergency Records was an American independent record label that operated from 1979 to 1989. It focused on Italian disco from the 1970s and 1980s and helped bring in electronic instruments like synthesizers and early computers. In 1981–1982 it released records that blended late disco moods with funky rhythms, creating a distinctive Emergency sound. In the early 1980s it released dance tracks such as "In the Bottle," "On the Upside," and "Let the Music Play." The international success of "Let the Music Play" helped the label stay active until 1988. In 1987 Emergency Records signed a distribution deal with Profile Records, which ended after two years. The label closed in 1989, and its back catalog was sold to Unidisc Music; its vinyl records are now of interest to collectors.
