The District Council of Yongala was a local government area in South Australia, based in Yongala, from 1883 to 1935.

It began on 8 March 1883, covering the Hundred of Yongala, including the towns of Petersburg (now Peterborough) and Yongala and the surrounding farmland. There was opposition from Petersburg residents who did not want to pay taxes to a larger council. In 1883 the area was about 200 square miles and valued at £203,630.

On 7 October 1886, Petersburg became the Corporate Town of Petersburg, taking a large part of the council’s population.

In January 1888, after the District Councils Act 1887, the adjacent Hundreds of Mannanarie and Morgan were added to Yongala. This expanded the council to about 600 square miles, valued at £542,500. Later, two parts of Yongala were annexed to Petersburg in 1888 and 1897.

In 1888 Yongala was divided into three wards—Mannanarie, Morgan, and Yongala—each electing two councillors. By 1934 the council chambers were in Yongala.

The council was abolished in 1935 after a government commission recommended reducing the number of municipalities. The remaining area of Yongala and Morgan Hundreds merged with the District Council of Coglin and part of the Corporate Town of Peterborough to form the District Council of Peterborough, while the Mannanarie Hundred joined the District Council of Jamestown.
