List of justices of the Supreme Court of Pakistan
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is the highest court in the country. It currently has the Chief Justice of Pakistan and fifteen senior judges, with occasional ad hoc judges from the Shariat Appellate Bench. Judges are appointed by the President on the Prime Minister’s advice. The modern court was created in 1956 under the Constitution’s Part VIII, which says judicial power is vested in one Supreme Court (and other lower courts that Parliament may create). Article 185(1) defines the Court’s original and appellate powers, notes the creation of four high courts, and allows appeals from high court decisions. The Constitution lets Parliament set the fixed number of justices, with some flexibility during recess. Justices serve until they are 65, unless they resign or are removed according to the Constitution. This summary covers appointed justices from 1947 to the present. On 7 March 2024, the Supreme Judicial Council found Justice Naqvi guilty of misconduct and recommended his removal.
