The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic church in the Elisabetin district of Timișoara, on Nicolae Bălcescu Square. Built from 1912 to 1919, it was designed by architect Károly Salkovits in a neo‑Gothic, eclectic style and can seat about 2,000 people. The church is run by Salvatorian monks, a religious order founded in 1881 in Austria.

History: Plans for a new church began in 1899. Money was raised through events and donations, including bricks from an old church and support from local leaders. The foundation stone was laid in 1912, and crosses were added to the towers in 1913. World War I slowed progress, but work resumed after the war. The church was consecrated on 17 August 1919, and the Salvatorians moved their residence here from Mehala.

Architecture and interior: The building has four towers, two of which are 57 meters tall. It features arched windows, a decorative rosette above the entrance, gargoyles, a decorative east tower, and branched vaults. Inside, large stained-glass windows fill the space with warm yellow light. The main altar, completed in 1929, shows Jesus with open arms; the tabernacle holds the Sacred Heart. Side altars for Mary and Joseph were added in 1929, with two more later for the Holy Cross and Saint Elizabeth. A statue of Jude the Apostle stands on the left, and an image of Saint Johann Baptist Jordan, founder of the Salvatorians, is on the right. The Way of the Cross runs along the side aisles. Near the entrance are statues of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes and Saint Anthony. A Valencia glass chandelier was donated, and four confessionals and 40 benches were supplied by donors. The entrance rosette with the image of Jesus was made by a local craftsman.
