Yang Kyung-sook (born 6 September 1962 in Imsil) is a South Korean politician and a member of the Democratic Party. She serves in the National Assembly as a proportional representative. In the 2020 general election, she was number 17 on the Platform Party list, a sister party to the Democratic Party; after the parties merged, she returned to the Democratic Party. She previously served on the Seoul Metropolitan Council for Jongno District from 1995 to 2002. Over about 30 years, she has held various roles in her party, including deputy chair of the Women’s Committee and deputy chair of the Policy Planning Committee, and she began her political career in 1991 after participating in the pro-democracy movement against Chun Doo-hwan in the 1980s. She has three degrees: a bachelor’s in Korean literature from Soongsil University, a master's from Yonsei University, and a doctorate in administration from Korea University. She is Roman Catholic and uses the Christian name Regina. Some people confuse her with other politicians who share the same Korean name and have criminal records.
