Eastland High School (Illinois)
Eastland High School (EHS) is a public high school in Lanark, Illinois. It serves students in grades 6–12 in Eastland Community Unit School District 308 and has about 350 students (2023–2024) with a student–teacher ratio of about 14:1. The principal is Monica Burkholder and the district superintendent is Dr. Alex Kashner. The teaching staff totals around 25 full-time equivalents.
The school colors are royal blue and orange, and the mascot is the Cougars. Eastland competes in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference and works with Pearl City High School for boys’ football and speech events, and with Milledgeville High School for golf and track, because of its small enrollment.
Eastland serves Lanark and nearby areas including Lake Carroll, Georgetown, and Shannon, about 25 miles north of Sterling. The school formed in 1987 from the consolidation of Lanark High School and Shannon High School. Lanark High opened in 1951 and had royal blue and white colors; Shannon High, also built in 1951, used orange and black. After the merger, Eastland kept orange and royal blue.
Academic highlights include a graduation rate around 90% (2018–19) and about 45% AP participation. In 2019, U.S. News & World Report ranked Eastland around 4,300 nationally and 145th in Illinois. The school also has seven state championships in sports and music.
