Drosera dilatatopetiolaris

Drosera dilatatopetiolaris is a carnivorous plant native to Australia, found in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Description
- It grows as a rosette of leaves and often produces plantlets, forming large clumps that can exceed 0.3 meters (about 1 foot) across.
- The center has green petioles about 3–5 mm wide.
- At the ends of the petioles are small, round, red carnivorous leaves, most of which lie on the soil surface.
- Inflorescences reach about 18 cm long, bearing white flowers from April to May.
- The species has a diploid chromosome number of 2n = 12.

Habitat and distribution
- It grows in damp, sandy soils on higher ground than Drosera petiolaris.
- It is native to coastal areas near Darwin in the Northern Territory and the northern Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Taxonomy and naming
- Drosera dilatatopetiolaris belongs to the genus Drosera, subgenus Lasiocephala, and is part of the Drosera petiolaris complex.
- It was first recognized and illustrated by Ludwig Diels in 1906, but was formally described in 1984 by Katsuhiko Kondo.
- The species epithet was originally written as dilatato-petiolaris; the hyphen was removed in accordance with nomenclature rules.
