Dream Team 1935
Dream Team 1935 is a 2012 Latvian biographical sports drama directed by Aigars Grauba. It tells the true story of Latvia’s national basketball team and their win at EuroBasket 1935, the first European basketball championship.
Set around the first European Championship in Geneva, coach Valdemārs Baumanis works to assemble a team and lead them to victory, facing obstacles but also help from supporters. Against the odds, Latvia defeats the favorites and becomes champions.
The film was shot in Latvia and Geneva. Production took about two and a half years and used 80 shooting days. The Cinevilla studio backlot, the largest in Northern Europe, was used for many scenes. Sound editing was done in the Czech Republic.
Dream Team 1935 premiered in Latvia on November 19, 2012, and an English-language version was released in early 2013. The film runs 120 minutes and had a budget of LVL 1.4 million. It stars Latvian actors including Jānis Āmanis.
