Boca do Monte, district of Santa Maria
Boca do Monte, meaning “Mouth of the Hill,” is the 7th district of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It sits in the northwest part of the city, and the district seat is about 16 km from downtown Santa Maria.
The district covers 307.44 square kilometers, about 17% of the Santa Maria municipality, which has a total area of 1,791.65 km². It is one of the oldest districts, along with Sede and Arroio do Só.
Boca do Monte borders the districts of Santo Antão, São Valentim and Sede, and also touches the municipalities of São Martinho da Serra, São Pedro do Sul and Dilermando de Aguiar.
Administratively, the district is divided into neighborhoods and is managed as a subprefecture.
Population and geography: The district has 2,941 residents, with 1,021 living in urban areas and 1,920 in rural areas. The population density is about 9.6 people per square kilometer. Elevation ranges from 80 meters to 450 meters above sea level.
