The Battle of Dogger Bank was a World War I naval clash fought on 24 January 1915 in the North Sea near the Dogger Bank. Britain’s Grand Fleet opposed the German High Seas Fleet. The German force, including the armored cruiser Blücher and several light cruisers with torpedo boats, tried to raid a British convoy. The British spotted them and, after a long chase, closed in and opened heavy gunfire at long range. The Germans headed for home, suffering damage, while Blücher sank with most of her crew. The British flagship Lion was out of action for several months, but no British ships were sunk and casualties were light. In the aftermath, both sides dismissed officers for poor judgment and made changes to equipment and procedures based on what went wrong.

Order of battle (simplified):
- British forces: Grand Fleet battlecruiser squadron and supporting cruisers.
- German forces: armored cruiser Blücher supported by light cruisers and torpedo boats (torpedo boats, like destroyers, were a key part of the German force).

Notes: German torpedo boats were similar in role to Royal Navy destroyers.
