Attanagalla Polling Division
Attanagalla Polling Division is a voting area in the Gampaha Electoral District in Sri Lanka’s Western Province. It covers about 163 square kilometers and had a population of 179,565 in 2012, with a density of around 1,101 people per square kilometer.
It is a weak bellwether for elections. The winner in Attanagalla has matched the national presidential result 5 times out of 8 and the national parliamentary result 4 times out of 7.
Demographics: The division is mainly Sinhalese (about 86.6%) with a significant Moor (Muslim) minority (about 11.9%). Buddhists make up about 84.5% of the population, and Muslims about 12.4%. In comparison, the larger Gampaha District has a Sinhalese majority of about 90.5%, Buddhists at 71.3%, and a Roman Catholic presence of about 19.5%.
