Do What You Do (Jermaine Jackson song)
Do What You Do is a 1984 R&B song by American singer Jermaine Jackson from his self-titled album Jermaine Jackson. It was released as the second US single from the album, with the B-side Tell Me I’m Not Dreamin’ (Too Good to Be True). In the UK and some other countries it was marketed under the name Dynamite. The European release came in January 1985; the US release was October 1984; the UK release was February 1, 1985.
The track runs 4 minutes 46 seconds and was released on Arista Records. It was written by Larry Ditommaso and Ralph Dino and produced by Jermaine Jackson. Do What You Do became a top-20 hit in the United States, peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 14 on the R&B chart, and spending three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. In Canada, it reached No. 29, and in the UK it peaked at No. 6.
The music video, directed by Bob Giraldi and produced by Anthony Payne, uses a Godfather-inspired storyline with Iman as Jackson’s love interest who betrays him; she is taken away by his henchmen, and her fate is not shown. This release was one of Jermaine’s early Arista singles after leaving Motown.
