Island Press is an Australian poetry publisher. It began in 1970, founded by Canadian poet, musician and Sydney University lecturer Philip Roberts. He lived on Scotland Island, which gave the press its name; he moved to Bundeena in 1973. In the mid-1970s the press was sold to Sydney University and was used to print diplomas for a few years. In 1979 Roberts returned to Canada and passed Island Press to the Australian poet Philip Hammial. Since then, Island Press has published more than 50 titles. Its books include works by Michele Seminara, John Tranter, Philip Hammial, Leith Morton, Kris Hemensley, Ken Bolton, and Martin Langford, among others.
