Dimidiochromis strigatus
Dimidiochromis strigatus is a species of haplochromine cichlid found only in Malawi. It is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN. This fish lives in Lake Malawi, Lake Malombe, and the upper to middle Shire River, mostly in shallow areas with a mix of weeds and sandy bottoms. It preys on small fish and larger invertebrates. Males defend a small spawning site, either among vegetation or on open sand. The species was previously placed in Haplochromis and is sometimes sold in the aquarium trade as Haplochromis 'sunset'. It was described by Regan in 1922. Synonyms include Haplochromis strigatus and Cyrtocara strigata.
