Bras des Mouches
Bras des Mouches is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows in the unorganized territory of Lac-Ministuk, within the Le Fjord-du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality, in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. The valley lies in the zec Mars-Moulin and is mainly used for forestry, with recreational tourism as a secondary activity. Several forest roads run through the Bras des Mouches valley.
The river rises from Lac des Mouches in Lac-Ministuk at about 349 meters above sea level. Lac des Mouches is about 0.9 kilometers long. The Bras des Mouches runs for 7.8 kilometers through forested land, dropping about 89 meters, until it reaches a bend on the north bank of the Bras d'Isaïe, at its confluence.
From there, the waters follow the Bras d'Isaïe for about 3.0 kilometers east, then continue along the rivière à Mars for about 10.9 kilometers generally north, crossing Baie des Ha! Ha! before joining the Saguenay River, which flows east to Tadoussac and the Saint Lawrence Estuary.
The name Bras des Mouches was officially adopted on June 29, 1983.
The surface of the Bras des Mouches is usually frozen from early December to late March, with safe ice travel typically from mid-December to mid-March.
