Devils Churn

Devils Churn is a narrow inlet of the Pacific Ocean in Lincoln County, Oregon, just south of Yachats. It sits in the Siuslaw National Forest and can be reached via the Restless Waters trail from the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area visitor center or from the U.S. Route 101 overlook. A U.S. Forest Service pass is needed to use the trail. Over thousands of years, waves cut into the basalt coast, forming a deep sea cave that later collapsed to create the churn. When the tide comes in, waves at the end of the churn can spray water hundreds of feet into the air. The area can be dangerous, so visitors should be careful. In 2021, a man drowned after trying to jump across the water.
