John Gregson (footballer)

John Gregson (17 May 1939 – 27 April 2025) was an English footballer who played as a winger.

Born in Skelmersdale, England, Gregson began his career with Skelmersdale United before moving to Blackpool (1957–1959), where he made 3 league appearances and scored 1 goal. He went on to play for Chester (1962–1963, 32 appearances, 5 goals), Shrewsbury Town (1963–1965, 56 appearances, 6 goals), Mansfield Town (1965–1967, 76 appearances, 5 goals), Lincoln City (1967–1968, 36 appearances, 6 goals), and Cambridge United (1968–1971, 32+ appearances, 1+ goal). He retired from football due to injury, and a testimonial match was held between a Cambridge United 11 and Ipswich Town, managed by Bobby Robson. Gregson died on 27 April 2025 at the age of 85.
