Dennis L. Smith is an American television director, cinematographer, and camera operator who has worked in the industry since 1971. He began as a news photojournalist for ABC, earning major documentary awards and helping win two Peabody Awards. As a camera operator, he worked on films such as Stir Crazy, Revenge of the Nerds, License to Drive, and the Home Alone movies. He later moved into cinematography and directing on TV, with Picket Fences marking his directorial debut and The Practice as another key project. He has directed episodes of Boston Legal, JAG, Numb3rs, The Vampire Diaries, Fringe, and the NCIS series (NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans).
