Dennis Sabre
The Dennis Sabre is a purpose-built fire engine made by Dennis Specialist Vehicles in Guildford, England, from 1995 to 2007. It was the last full-size fire appliance built by the company before it closed. The Sabre was designed as a lower-cost alternative to the Dennis Rapier but with more equipment capacity, and it came in three sizes: Sabre, Sabre ML, and Sabre XL. Most of the bodywork on the chassis was done by John Dennis Coachbuilders. It is powered by a Cummins C Series turbocharged diesel engine and an Allison MD five-speed automatic transmission, with double-wishbone suspension and a top speed of 72 mph. It carries 1,800 liters of water and seats six in a stainless steel tilting cab. Operators included fire brigades in the West Midlands, North East England, Nottinghamshire, Hereford and Worcester, Dublin, and the Hong Kong Fire Services; Dublin ordered the only Sabre turntable ladders on the Sabre HD, a heavy-duty version also used by Singapore Civil Defence. Sabres were exported to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, South Africa and the Netherlands.
