Fashi Zhenwu Temple
Fashi Zhenwu Temple is a Taoist temple in Fengze District, Quanzhou, Fujian, China. It is dedicated to Xuanwu, also known as Zhenwu. In 2021, the temple became part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China, recognized for its role in maritime trade and cultural exchange during the Song and Yuan dynasties. The temple is believed to have been built in the Song dynasty (960–1279), though some sources say it began in the Southern Tang period (923–936).
Today’s main buildings are the Shanmen (the gate), the Bai Pavilion, and the Zhenwu Hall. The Bai Pavilion was rebuilt in 1870 during the Qing dynasty, and the Zhenwu Hall was rebuilt in 1842 and restored in 1985. The temple covers about 780 square meters.
