Choccolocco is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. It covers about 11.8 square miles, mostly land, and sits at an elevation of 712 feet. The population was 2,838 in 2020.

The name comes from Creek words, meaning either “big shoals” or “big house,” depending on the source. Choccolocco was founded in 1832. It appeared on the 1890 U.S. Census as a town and again as a census-designated place in 2010.

The community briefly made headlines in 2001 after The Daily Show aired a piece about the so-called “Choccolocco Monster.” An Anniston Star article later revealed the creature was actually a prank by local teenager Neal Williamson, who wore a cow skull and a sheet to frighten drivers.
