David Weathers
David Weathers is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Born on September 25, 1969, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, he threw right-handed and played in the majors from 1991 to 2009.
Weathers played for many teams during his career, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Houston Astros. He was part of the New York Yankees’ 1996 World Series championship team.
Drafted in 1988 after attending Motlow State Community College, Weathers made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays on August 2, 1991. He spent time with the Marlins in the 1992 expansion draft, and over the years he moved through several trades and waivers before finishing with the Brewers in 2009. He was the Reds’ closer in 2007, recording 33 saves, and he posted an ERA under 4.00 during his time with Cincinnati.
Weathers played his final major league game on October 3, 2009. His son, Ryan Weathers, is also a pitcher in MLB.
Career totals include a win–loss record of 73–88, an earned run average of 4.25, and 976 strikeouts.
