Ban Muang (newspaper)
Ban Muang is a Thai media outlet that started as a newspaper in 1972 and has operated as a news website since 2016. It was a mid-sized, mass‑audience paper known for horse-racing pages and a strong classifieds section. Owned by Banharn Silpa-archa, who became prime minister in 1995, Ban Muang was founded on 23 May 1972 with Wijarn Pukpiboon as director and Mana Praepan as its first editor, and it soon became the country’s third-most popular mass daily under Mana. Mana left in 1991 after internal disagreements. The paper was originally printed by Ban Muang Kan Phim. In 2000, Pracha Maleenont bought the company and began publishing under a new name, but soon stopped operations, after which Wijarn relaunched Ban Muang under the Navakit Ban Muang company. The print edition continued until 1 January 2017, when it announced it would cease print because it could not compete in the changing media and economic environment. Since 2016, Ban Muang has operated as a news website.
