Miyama, Mie
Miyama (Miyama-chō) was a town in Kitamuro District, Mie Prefecture, Japan. In 2001, residents voted against building a nearby nuclear power plant to boost the town. By 2003, Miyama had about 9,963 people and a population density of 68.08 per km2, with an area of 146.35 km2. On October 11, 2005, Miyama merged with Kiinagashima to form the town of Kihoku, in southern Mie Prefecture. The Kumano Kodo World Heritage Site is located in the area that used to be Miyama. Miyama is known for fresh fish, especially saury sushi.
