DAAS Icon
DAAS Icon is the first and only studio album by Australian comedy trio the Doug Anthony All Stars. It was released on 14 May 1990 after being recorded in 1989 in Melbourne. The album runs about 43 minutes and includes the singles “I Want to Spill the Blood of a Hippy” and “Bottle.” It became Australia’s best-selling independent album, but was banned in the UK because of a line about the IRA in “KRSNA” (the ban was later lifted by a court). At the 1991 ARIA Awards it received nominations for Best New Talent and Best Comedy Release. Some early versions of “Little Gospel Song” and “Change the Blades” came from their 1986 demo Let It Swing. The track “Shang-a-lang” borrows the drum intro from Beastie Boys’ “She’s Crafty.” All track titles are shown in uppercase on the cover, and all lyrics are by Paul McDermott with music by the Doug Anthony All Stars.
