Curtitoma
Curtitoma is a genus of sea snails in the family Mangeliidae. It was introduced by Paul Bartsch in 1941 to group species with a distinct anal sinus and a protoconch sculptured with many fine threads, which were otherwise similar to species in the genera Oenopota and Propebela.
The shell is ovoid and short. The whorls of the teleoconch have strong, tabulated shoulders and lack a keel at the shoulder angle. The axial ribs are strong between the shoulder and the periphery but fade toward the base. The spiral sculpture features incised lines on the spire and threads on the columella. The aperture is pear-shaped, clearly channelled toward the front, with a weak sinus at the shoulder.
The genus name Curtitoma is feminine (from the Greek word tome, meaning incision), though some authors treat it as neuter.
Type species: Curtitoma hecuba Bartsch, 1941. Synonyms include Nematoma and Widalli.
