Cold Water is the debut studio album by Australian blues and roots musician Mia Dyson, released in May 2003. Dyson co-produced it with Lloyd Barratt, recording in a mud-brick farmhouse near Daylesford. The album shows Dyson’s songwriting and her skill on many instruments, including electric, baritone and acoustic guitars as well as piano. It features guest players such as Steve Hesketh on Hammond organ and piano, Sime Nugent and Kylie Auldist on backing vocals, and Jaimi Faulkner on guitar, plus collaborations with Dean Addison and Carl Pannuzzo. The track St Kilda Lament is written by Ashley Davies, who also plays acoustic guitar on the song. The album was mixed by Craig Pilkington at Audrey Studio in Richmond. The Age praised Dyson’s powerful voice and guitar work, though noted the songwriting was a bit one-dimensional. Cold Water was nominated for Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2003 ARIA Awards.
