2008 Football League One play-off final: Doncaster Rovers beat Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley on 25 May 2008 to win promotion to the Championship. The only goal came in the 48th minute when James Hayter headed home from a Brian Stock corner. Attendance was 75,132 and the match was refereed by Andy D'Urso. Doncaster finished third and Leeds fourth in League One that season, with Swansea City and Nottingham Forest promoted automatically. Leeds had a 15-point deduction for entering administration, and Dennis Wise had resigned in January with Gary McAllister taking over as manager. In the play-off semi-finals, Leeds beat Carlisle United 3-2 on aggregate, while Doncaster defeated Southend United 5-1 on aggregate. The final win sent Doncaster to the Championship for 2008-09, while Leeds stayed in League One. In the next season, Leeds finished fourth in League One and lost in the playoffs, and Doncaster finished 14th in the Championship.
