Clinton High School (Indiana)
Clinton High School was a public school in Clinton, Indiana, for students in grades 7–12. It opened in 1886 and, after the 1961 consolidation of Dana, Hillsdale, St. Bernice, and Blanford High Schools, stayed in operation until 1977, when a new building opened and the school became South Vermilion High School. The campus was on Blackman Street in central Clinton, with football and baseball fields at SportLand Park.
The Clinton Wildcats were known for their strong football tradition. They won 25 sectional championships, reached the state tournament Sweet Sixteen eight times, and the Elite Eight twice. They also won four regional championships (1928, 1943, 1947, 1950). In football, Clinton claimed five Indiana Big School Football Championships (1920, 1924, 1928, 1932, 1933). The team earned nine conference titles (six in the Indiana High School Football Conference and three in the Western Indiana Conference) and five state championships (three outright and two shared). In 1933, Clinton tied East Chicago Washington 6–6 in a post-season mythical state game and was named Most Outstanding Team in Indiana by the Indianapolis Times and the IHSAA. Throughout its history, 19 Wildcats were named All-State by various media selectors.
