Mischa Kamp
Mischa Kamp (born 7 August 1970 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch film director. She is best known for the 2014 TV film Jongens (Boys), which also played in cinemas because of its popularity.
Education and early work
- In 1989 she studied communications science in Amsterdam.
- In 1991 she moved to the Dutch Film and Television Academy and graduated in 1996 with the short Mijn moeder heeft ook een pistool. That year she also worked on the VPRO production Waskracht!.
Breakthroughs and successes
- After making several documentaries and short films, Kamp became known for Het paard van Sinterklaas (Winky’s Horse) in 2005. The film received many nominations and wins, and screenwriter Tamara Bos won a Golden Calf for Best Screenplay of a Feature Film. It also earned a Golden Film for 100,000 visitors.
- The 2007 sequel, Waar is het paard van Sinterklaas? (Where’s Winky’s Horse?), also reached 100,000 cinema tickets and earned a Golden Film.
- In 2007 she won two Cinekid Festival awards: a Jury award for non-fiction for Bloot and a Jury award for fiction for Adriaan.
- She continued with more television films, and in 2010 directed LelleBelle (Sweet Desire). In 2012 the family movie Tony 10 was released in cinemas.
Jongens and international recognition
- Jongens (2014), a gay-themed TV film that also screened in theaters, brought international recognition. At the Zlín-Jugendfilmfestival in the Czech Republic, it won four awards: Best Youth Movie from the International Youth Jury, Best Youth Movie from the International Ecumenical Jury, the Public Golden Apple for Best Movie, and the Miloš Macourek Award for Best Youth Actor (awarded to lead actor Gijs Blom).
- The film also won Best Narrative Feature Film at the 2015 KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival.
Short films
- Kamp has also directed several short films.
