Buildings, sites, districts, and objects in California listed on the National Register of Historic Places include more than 2,800 properties and districts across 58 counties, with 145 designated as National Historic Landmarks. The counts are approximate and come from the National Register Information Database as of April 24, 2008, with new weekly updates since then. Listings change frequently due to additions and occasional removals, so these numbers are not official. The counts exclude boundary increase or decrease listings that modify the area of an existing property or district and that carry a separate National Register reference number.
