Cine-Excess is a UK film festival and convention that focuses on cult and transgressive cinema. It features themed conferences, open discussions, and screenings for both general audiences and industry professionals. The festival was founded in 2007 by Xavier Mendik, evolving from the Sci-Fi-London festival and becoming its own event in 2008. Since 2013 it has been held in Birmingham (November 15–17) and aims to bring together academics, industry, and audiences, blending theory with practice. The event has honored Roger Corman, Dario Argento, and Joe Dante with Lifetime Achievement awards, and has shown notable screenings such as The Movie Orgy (2010), Cannibal Holocaust (2011), and A Gun for Jennifer and Society (2013). Cine-Excess has also partnered with Nouveaux Pictures to release high-definition cult films, including Amsterdamned, Suspiria, and Viva. Critics have described it as a unique, eclectic festival that celebrates paracinema and transgressive filmmaking like no other.
